ROLE
UI/UX Design, Design System

æpistle was born from divisive algorithms on social media. It’s a blend of image-sharing, microblogging, and forums. With social unity as its goal, æpistle brings together like-minded communities through creative content.

THE PROBLEM
How can we create a safe experience for users that share visions and connect interests authentically?

The Solution.

æpistle is a user-friendly platform for content creators of all ages. It allows for rich posts with minimal effort, combining image-sharing with innovative content options.

User Research

Ecosystem map.

To understand the types of people who would engage with the mobile application, we created an ecosystem map that outlines everything from the big picture to essential details.

Low Fidelity

The Initial Designs.

Testing and
Iterations.

We began with the concept of æpistle, rooted in visual design, and used it as a foundation to conduct tests and iterate.

USERS TESTED

Interacting with diverse groups helped us understand online social networking challenges across various social media platforms.

High Fidelity

The Updated Designs.

After testing, we tightened up some key features using ‘how might we‘ methods to focus on ways to enhance users’ posting abilities based on their feedback.

Feature #1

Curated Groups.

How might we encourage users to tell their stories, so they feel heard and feel like they’re part of a community?

We aim to foster belonging by ensuring users find resonance within their chosen communities, inspiring authentic storytelling and empowerment.

Feature #2

Customization.

How might we allow users to post content-enriching ways to showcase their creativity?
This feature, reflecting user feedback, ensures a personalized experience, where every interaction aligns with individual preferences.
Feature #3

Embedment

How might we help users’ posts become easily discovered to connect with like-minded individuals?
This page ensures like-minded individuals quickly discover users’ posts.
FLOW #1

User
Onboarding.

One of my main focuses was to create the most effective user onboarding experience for first-time users signing up for æpistle.

I focused on an intuitive, welcoming onboarding that introduces users to æpistle’s features.

FLOW #2

Create Post.

I also worked on creating an engaging content posting experience, as it’s a big step in helping users connect with others who share similar interests.

The goal was to allow users the flexibility to create in a way that reflects their preferred communication style.

FLOW #3

Create Post

+ Customization and post annoymously.

To align with one of æpistle’s primary goals of enabling users to freely express their opinions without fear, I introduced a feature that allows users to customize and post anonymously.

This fosters a safe and inclusive environment, encouraging authentic engagement.

Style Guide.

As part of my role, I oversaw the upkeep of the team’s design system and mentored junior designers on maintaining it, ensuring consistency and quality across our projects.

Takeaway

Conclusion.

æpistle launched spring of 2021 but ran out of funding shortly after. Even though this was a short project, I learned so much throughout my time. I was very excited to be a part of the journey to impact the social media community.
